If you are reading this article, you are probably like tens of millions of Americans who actively have some sort of interest or curiosity about what CBD is and what it can do for you. Indeed, few supplements have ever become as popular as CBD. Since it’s federal legalization in late 2018, the popularity of the compound has exploded, with one survey finding that as many as 1 in 3 Americans has tried CBD.

However, for all CBD’s popularity, many questions remain about the compound and what it can do for you. While there is some evidence to show that CBD may be able to assist people with numerous physical and emotional problems, more research needs to be done to more scientifically determine the specific medical benefits. Furthermore, many consumers have a variety of questions about what CBD is and what it does. One such example: Can Moonwlker CBD Get You High?

Can CBD Get You High?

No. CBD cannot get you high.

A full answer to this question requires an understanding of how CBD and marijuana works. CBD is a specific type of cannabinoid. There are over 100 cannabinoids out there, and these cannabinoids will alter the functioning of your body’s Endocannabinoid System. The same can be said for marijuana, which comes with heavy doses of THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol. THC is also a cannabinoid, and it is responsible for the “high” that you feel when using marijuana.

Your Body’s Endocannabinoid System

Everyone has an Endocannabinoid System. This is a part of the body that is known for keeping many physical and emotional sensations in homeostasis. As such, it helps to regulate a variety of sensations, including pain, hunger, stress, sleep levels, and more.

There are roughly three components to your Endocannabinoid System:

  • Cannabinoid receptors are found throughout your body, including in your organs, skin, and muscles. Thus far, scientists have identified two types of receptors, CB1 and CB2.
  • Cannabinoids are produced throughout your body.
  • Enzymes that end cannabinoid reactions.

Under normal circumstances, your body will produce its cannabinoids. These cannabinoids will then bind with cannabinoid receptors that are found throughout your body, causing a chemical reaction that can help to alter any of the above sensations. Upon the conclusion of that reaction, enzymes produced by your body will break down the cannabinoids your body has produced.

CBD and THC both interact with your body’s Endocannabinoid System but in vastly different ways. CBD does not bind with your cannabinoid receptors directly. Instead, it alters the impact of the actual bond itself, making it stronger and lasting longer. This can result in a different physical and emotional experience.

That is not the case for THC, which does bind with CBD receptors. This, in turn, can overwhelm your Endocannabinoid System, resulting in the physical feelings of intoxication that you often

The actual amount of THC in marijuana varies, but according to at least one study, the average THC content of marijuana was around 12% in 2014. Of course, consuming this level of THC will result in a feeling of intoxication.

By contrast, legally produced CBD contains, at the most, .3% THC. Furthermore, many CBD products contain no THC at all. Full Spectrum CBD contains up to .3% THC, while Broad Spectrum CBD contains no THC. The use of each product ultimately comes down to personal preference. Some CBD users believe in what is known as the Entourage Effect. This is essentially the idea that CBD works better, and makes you feel better if it contains all of its naturally occurring products, including CBD.

As a side note, most CBD users will not be at risk for failing a drug test as a result of their CBD use, but it is possible. As such, if drug tests are a concern for you, you may want to consider sticking to Broad Spectrum products. Again, these contain no THC.

Regardless of the type of CBD you purchase, legally-produced CBD does not have nearly enough THC to result in any sort of intoxication or high. The relatively small amount in CBD cannot create enough of a chemical reaction that is needed to result in that sort of experience.
